About a month ago I talked about a little tiny blue thing that I would miss. Well it seems like will be getting a new set of tubes the end of this month.
This past Thursday, Audrey had a follow up appointment with her ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctor. He wanted her to get a hearing test to see if she was having decreased hearing due to the loss of her right tube and the fluid buildup in the left. She did very well on her hearing test but it did show that her levels of hearing have decreased since her last test which was in Jan 2009.
At her previous appointment, we had discussed waiting until her left tube fell out for a replacement set. The left tube is not in place properly and has fluid building up behind it. The left tube isn't functioning properly and since her hearing levels have dropped, we decided that it was best to go ahead and get a replacement set now instead of waiting. Her language is very good now and we would not want that to suffer any due to fluid build up in her ears causing her to have a hard time hearing.
She will also have her adenoids removed at the same time. The adenoids are small glands in the back of the throat that help fight of bacteria. With repeat infections, like Audrey has had, they tend to swell and can cause increased mucus production.
Her surgery is scheduled at 7:30 am on Friday March 26th. She will be under local anethesia, have her left tube removed, a new set of tubes replaced in both ears, and her adenoids out.
