Mortifying Mommy Moment

This sweet little face could certainly have not embarassed her mommy could it?
Yes, it did. It had everything to do with this lifeguard.

Oh yes. We had one today. My sweet child embarrassed her mommy. This probably won't be the last time either.

For the last two years she has attended swimming lessons at the local college swimming pool. She has learned so much in two years and is getting pretty comfortable in the water which we are quite thankful for.

Abby's group was sitting on the edge of the pool getting ready to jump in and I noticed her giving the very petite, short haired, female life guard sitting next to her the look. Oh yes, you know the look. The one where you size a person up. Yep, that one.

Mommy knew what was about to come out of her mouth.

Oh yes. My kid said it. As loud as she possibly could.

"ARE YOU A BOY?"

My jaw dropped. I think that it hit the bottom of the 13 foot deep swimming pool. After what seemed like eternity, the very sweet young lifeguard said, "No honey, I am a girl."

Unfortunately there are no rocks big enough for mommy to crawl under at a swimming pool or else I might still be there.

Regaining my composure, I apologized to the lifeguard and told her that after I got my hair cut short, my own child asked me if I was now a boy.

She just laughed at the mortified mommy and said that most of the little ones she taught only looked at her from the neck up and that was not the first time she had been asked if she was a boy. What a relief that was to hear. I just feel sorry for all the other mommies who have been mortified.

  1. Oh, they keep you on your toes don't they?? Funny. Kale would have done the same thing. Times like that are when you pretend its not your kid, your just baby sitting.
