Today is a very special and exciting day in our house. We are celebrating! At 12:32 pm, 5 years ago today, Abbygail Maguire was born. She has changed Kevin and I's life as we knew it. Here is her story...
The Pregnancy:
It went pretty smooth until I was about 26 weeks. At my 26 week apt my doctor started to notice protein in my urine. I had another apt two weeks later and there was more protein and I had gained 7 pounds. My blood pressure was starting to rise and I was starting to swell. At 34 weeks I was put on bed rest for high blood pressure and began bi-weekly non-stress tests to make sure she was alright. Thursday Oct 21st, I had my second non-stress test and Dr. apt. We were scheduled to be induced the following week so she could be born on her daddy's birthday. Kevin asked the question that would change our lives. "How much do you think she weighs?" Our OB said that he thought she was about 6 1/2-7 pounds and sent us for another ultrasound. To everyone's surprise, she was only 5 lbs 3 oz. She was breech and I had VERY little amniotic fluid. Her umbilical cord was extremely small and she wasn't getting very much nutrients from it. Our OB scheduled a c-section the next morning because she needed to be out sooner rather than later.
The Delivery:
We were so excited to meet you that I really wasn't scared about the c-section. It hurt, I was out of it for a long time, but so happy that you were here. My bllod pressure was still high, so I was put on some medicine that made you feel really sick. I didn't care what I felt like as long as you were alright. You were a whopping 4 lbs 15 oz and 16 1/2 inches long. You weren't breathing at first but perked right up soon after.

The First Year:
Wow did this go by fast or what. You have learned to eat, crawl, and play but most importantly you made an attempt to walk. Not real well yet but you were trying. You said your first word which was dad, then you said dog, then finally you said mom. We battled colic, the occasional ear infection, and the horrible thing called teething. You had your first Christmas, first snowfall, and first camping trip. We looked forward to the next years to come.

The Second Year:
This year went by so fast. You learned to walk, talk, and showed us your personality. You were a very independent little lady and have quite a funny personality. You loved hugs and kisses, playing with dad, and of course eating. At your second birthday party, you were tired and didn't want to open any more presents so you threw yourself down on the floor and pitched a huge fit. Of course everyone thought it was funny and about 2 minutes you were done and ready to open more presents. You have mastered the potty and sleep in your big girl bed all night by yourself.
You were a very sweet young lady. You were independent but like to spend time with mom and dad. You had your first sleepover this year, started a new daycare, and you love to play with your baby dolls. You saw Disney Princesses on Ice this year and went to the state fair. You made the announcement to our family that you were going to be a big sister.

The Fourth Year:
Wow, I am shocked that we are here already. Four years have passed since you were born. You became a big sister this year, and are a great one at that. You love your sister and are very proud to show her off. This year, you have learned more words and talk a LOT more now. Sometimes your dad wishes that you hadn't started talking but I remind him that he couldn't wait for you to start. You know what you want and when you want it and aren't afraid to let anyone know. You are strong willed but can go with the flow when you need to. You started Pre-K this year and love school.
It just seems like yesterday I saw you for the first time. You filled my heart with so much love that I had never felt before. You made me a better person. The feelings I had when you were born are still fresh in my mind. The sleepless nights, the constant crying, the tiny little baby who could only sleep in the crook of my arm, were all worth it. It seems like yesterday that I held all night long because you had colic and cried each night. Then we would sleep the day away, you wrapped up in my arms. I hated those nights but miss them so much. What seemed like eternity at the time was a blink and then it was gone. You were and still are a funny little thing and you make me so proud of you. You are a bright shining star in my life and I am proud to be your mommy. The last 5 years have gone by so fast. If I could find a way to slow down time, I would baby girl because you are a young lady now. I know that I still call you baby girl sometimes, but you will always be my baby.
You are a warm hearted soul, creative, funny, and inspire me to be a better person. You are compassionate, loving and lively. You light up a room with your personality and everyone likes you. You are a very sweet and caring young lady and I can't wait to see the young woman that you grow up to be.
Happy Birthday to my Baby girl Abby. These years have gone by too fast but I have cherished them. I thank God everyday for giving me you to raise. You are such a blessing.
I Love you so very much,
Mommy
