Unconditional Love

Yesterday Kevin, Audrey and I (Abby was at a sleepover) went to town to get a few items and decided to have breakfast. As we were waiting to order, I noticed an elderly couple coming through the door. The wife was in a wheelchair and her husband was pushing her. They seemed like a normal elderly couple to me. As we got our food and sat down, the elderly couple was out of my thoughts. I was finishing my breakfast, Kevin had just started his so we decided to switch seats so he could eat and I could finish feeding Audrey. I glanced up and saw the couple sitting a few tables away from us. Their backs were to me and being the people watcher that I am, I watched them for a few seconds. That was all it took to see the love and caring the husband had for his wife. He had placed his breakfast aside and was cutting up her pancakes and helping her eat. He placed a bite of pancake on her fork and put the fork in her hand. With a very shaky hand, she fed herself. He waited until she was totally done eating before he took the lid off his coffee, had a drink and started to eat. His coffee and breakfast were more than likely cold, but he didn't seem to mind. You see, it was the most simplest action taken by the husband that showed his unconditional love for her. My eyes welled up with tears and I told Kevin that when we get older, I want him to cut my pancakes if I can't. His response was, "That is what you are supposed to do." As we were leaving, the couple were facing the door. We walked outside and I looked over at them. The husband was smiling and the wife had a glimmer in her eye. I thought to myself how sweet they were and they were probably thinking the same thing about us. You know, Kevin is right, it's the little things that show your love for another.
