Pumpkin Patch and new experiences

Each year we take the kids to the pumpkin patch. A lady that Kevin and I used to work with has a greenhouse and garden where she grows her own vegetables and sells them. It is kind of like a roadside vegetable stand. Each year she gets pumpkins and brings them in to sell. She doesn't grow her own because they don't grow real well here in Oklahoma. Anyway, each year we take the kids to this pumpkin patch. She always has decorated backgrounds set up so you can take pictures with. This year was particularlly fun since Audrey was walking and could say "pu kin".

Audrey really like the "pu kins". She kept trying to pick them up and carry them around. Some of the pumpkins were as big as she was!

Abby found a HUGE one and really thought she could pick it up. Yep, that didn't happen.

Each year we have either painted our pumpkins or did nothing to them. This year Kevin decided that he wanted to carve them. I am not a fan of carved pumpkins unless you are a professional, but decided to go ahead and give it a try. The girls were pretty funny. Abby was a little leary of the strigny stuff. She really didn't know what to expect when her daddy told her to reach in and grab a handful.

The look on her face was priceless!

Little sister Audrey really enjoyed the pumpkins. She was not the least bit afraid of reaching in for a big handful. She also thought that the pumpkin had to be mighty tasty and grabbed the big serving spoon and went after eating the inside of the pumpkin. She went back for more several times.

The outcome was not that great. The pumpkins had crooked noses, offset eyes and lopsided mouths but it was a fun experience. If we carve them again next year, we will definatly be getting a carving kit and not using kitchen knives. Way too dangerous. My vote for next year is painting or nothing at all. They were rotted within a week. Pretty disappointing.
